This women’s history month I wanted to write about some women that changed or are currently changing paradigms of what is being a woman, women in music, cinema and literature that have inspired lots and they deserve more recognition for it, today we remind why they are so important, how they have empowered different communities to challenge limits imposed by patriarchal society especially tight for poor,LGBT, POC and immigrant woman.
Janelle Monae
A great singer who fights every day for her community and hasn’t hesitated to show what she stands for in different videos like the panty with ´my pussy grabs back’ printed, she never misses a chance to express her disconformity with institutionalized oppression over women el POC's, she always says that her desire is for women to be united to fight against injustice.
Her music goes from a genre to another with hip-hop, psychedelic soul, r&b, funk, and videos with complex concepts and an aesthetic that make them art.
In the video dirty computer she shows a dystopic world with bases that we can see today, in a society where fear overcomes freedom in a very black mirror way.

The Indian film director is known for films that take controversial topics in children of a desired sex 1987, In which she exposes the impact of patriarchy in unborn children of India,in the reluctant fundamentalist she tells the story of a Pakistani immigrant and his cultural identity in the US after the 9/11,She had made two biopics Amelia (2009) and queen of Katwee (2016) about a Ugandan girl prodigy in chess who overcomes poverty.

we know and appreciate her for her role as Sophia Burset in Orange is the new black, she was the first trans woman being front page of Times and to be nominated for an Emmy. She has become an important referent for the trans community, she uses her voice to talk about important issues for LGBT, the actress and producer had shown the reason to cast trans actors and actresses for trans characters and has paved the way to others who want to succeed.

A Puerto Rican actress, the first Latina women to win an Oscar, she is known for her role in west side story 1961 ,she always looked for roles that were outside the stereotype of a Latina woman and nowdays with 87 years old she’s still an icon , she keeps making presence in the Hollywood scene playing Lydia in one day at a time.

A writer of sci-fi and fantasy, a feminist who proposed a sight of genre and other sociologic topics over their work such as the left hand of darkness which that takes place in a planet in which every person in androgynous. the novel series Earthsea it's considered a classic of fantasy, the one who introduces a school of magic as a concept that was later popularized by harry potter, this series were adapted to a Ghibli movie by Goro Miyazaki, several authors like Neil Gaiman have mentioned Legin’s influence in their work.

I couldn't left outside my idol, a great singer,dancer,spy that helped in the fight against Nazis and refused to perform for segregaded audiences, woman that made history but she has a long history to be told if you want to learn more about her here is the queer podcast because she was, in fact, a bisexual lady.
