Alan Frust's novels are chraterized for taking place in the period between wars. In the world of spionage novels they stand out for being well doucumented,this historical accuracy confers them an interesting realism,even tough according to a big part of pubic opinon it doesnt accomplish the goal of drawn the reader into the story.

The story begins in october of 1937 when Jean-François Mercier is designated to move to Warsaw in order to monitor the German activity,facing the threat of nazism.It wrap you into the tense atmosphere of Europe between wars,The high society, the elegant and interguing magic of diplomatic events.The history is centered on Jean but we can get a glimpse of spies,retired and in service.Finally the story ends in may of 1938 with the German's invasion of Poland that made explode WW2.

Although the intention of the book doesnt get to capture the reading from the suspense,it does it in terms of drawning into the epoch,the description of places and the clothes is not too dense but in every situation it allows to have a clear image in the mind and the a feeling in particular from the point of view of Mercier,throught all the story in flashbacks we're getting to know the story,a perfect way to get lost on the daily life of an spy.
